Ideal boilers: keeping your house warm

There are days that the house feels cold especially during winter. As part of a solution, most households opt for boiler installation. To fully maximise the efficiency of the boilers, it should be installed by qualified and registered engineer and should be annually serviced. Boiler installation is however not the topic for this article. Instead, it is on how to correct issues affecting the efficiency of your boiler.

So, which parts should you check if your boiler is not working properly? The condensate pipe, radiator, and the pressure gauge should be the first parts to check.

For the condensate pipe;

Most boiler repair companies and heating installers get phone calls due to the problem of frozen condensate pipes during those extremely cold days.  The easiest way to prevent frozen condensate pipes is to have them installed internally. This is however not applicable in most cases and therefore, forcing them to be installed externally.

The external condensate pipes freeze up during winter but it is not an issue to stress over. With these easy DIY tips, you should have the condensate flowing;

  1. Pouring lukewarm water on the pipe should do the trick. Boiling water is not advised since it might crack the pipe
  2. Use of microwavable pad placed on the pipe.

The radiator

Your boiler may fail to warm up the house due to the accumulation of air bubbles in the radiator. One clear indication that there are accumulated air bubbles in the radiator is that the top feels cooler. If so, you need to bleed the radiator. By using the radiator key and turning the valve ¼ inch, the radiator should bleed out all the air until water starts to flow out. By doing so, the heat in the radiator will be distributed all over making sure your boiler is working efficiently

The pressure gauge

The ideal pressure is between 1 and 2 bars. If the pressure gauge shows otherwise, it may be the reason for your boiler failure. One needs to top up the pressure if it is low and lower the pressure if it is high. There are taps at the bottom of the boiler for this. After re-pressurising to the desired level, make sure to turn the taps off completely. The water pressure should always remain constant for better and safe boiler performance. While doing this quick fix, you should make sure that the heating system is cold.

If you have any of the above-specified problems, that is, lower or higher water pressure, frozen condensate pipe or heating up radiators, there is no need to contact the boiler installation companies. With these simple fixes, your boiler will be 100% functional. However, if you find it troublesome, feel free to contact Manchester Pro Flush.
